This paper covers the economics of human resources and related public policy issues. The labour market is the central concept of the course. We will examine the determinants of wages and employment, education and training, immigration, inequality and discrimination, incentives, careers and contracts, collective bargaining, unemployment and labour market policies. Throughout the course we will be discussing public policy issues in New Zealand, and comparing New Zealand research findings with those from the international literature.
