The thesis bases its research on a comprehensive sample of banks that have operated in Australasia over the past 25 years (see table below). The emphasis of information collected for these institutions are financial key data (balance sheet, income statement), details on credit losses, provisioning and general prudential information. The data base only includes banks with substantial deposit taking, retail & mortgage lending operations and thus excludes specialty lenders or dedicated investment banks (many of which are branch operations of overseas banks).

The data have now been collected from a total of over 600 bank annual reports but I am still studying suitable ways to make them available to the research community. For now, a prototype data set for ANZ Bank (Group) is available for viewing in a dynamic interactive, respectively static format (click on link button to the left).

As to the data in these spreadsheet, if figures are shown in a blue font, they are original data recorded from the banks' accounts. Black font figures mean they are derived data. The data set is enriched with numerous footnotes to explain adjustments, assumptions and sometimes the page source for difficult to find data.

Please give me feedback regarding my data collection. I am keen to see this data used for other academic research because none of the commercial data provider will have a full time series back to 1980 for such a large group of Australasian banks. Similarly, credit loss related information has not been collected in this detail so far.
