Description

I currently hold a Chair of Environmental Economics in the Department of Economics. This position is jointly funded by the Ministry for the Environment and the University of Waikato. My role focuses on advancing the economic analysis of freshwater issues throughout New Zealand, while also acting as a specialist economic advisor to the Ministry.

The key facets of my work in this area involve the development of novel methods to enable more rigourous economic research concerning issues at the land-water interface, the identification of key principles underlying the management of New Zealand water resources, the completion of economic and policy analysis on specific projects for the Ministry for the Environment, and the development of capacity in economic analysis at the regional and national level.

Overall, my research involves providing robust economic analysis to inform decision making regarding complex natural systems. This work involves farm-, catchment-, regional-, and national-level studies. The development, application, and communication of rigourous economic analysis within complex political environments is a feature of my ongoing research.
